You cannot leave Africa. It is always with you, there inside your head.

Serian's Serengeti Mobile Lamai

Alex’s Lamai Camp, tucked away from the throng in the amazing Lamai Wedge, is my first choice for any Serengeti mobile from July to November. The next level of safaris is private ones and the pure excellence of the guides here.

Summary:

Serian’s Serengeti Mobile Lamai offers great service with just six tents; it can be reserved just for a group. It faces crossing point 4 from the shadow of great acacia trees. Along the Mara’s length, this is the principal crossing site; it gets quite crowded when the time comes for the thousands upon thousands of wildebeest, zebra, and other herbivores to make their dangerous trip! Among groves of fig trees, rugged mountains, and apparently limitless plains, the scene farther back from the bank also boasts amazing numbers of animals.

It is run by Serian, a group of migration camps established by East African top guide Alex Walker. The Serian brand is linked with excellent guiding criteria! Private automobiles come guaranteed.

Access and location:

SERian’s Serengeti Mobile Set one kilometer from the Mara River Crossing Point 4, Lamai sits in the far north of the Serengeti National Park. The chosen airstrip for arrival is Lamai.

Facilities and accommodation at Serian’s Serengeti Mobile Lamai:

At Lamai, there are just two suites and four guest tents, all set up beneath grand acacias for some nice cool shade. Every one has a veranda where visitors can enjoy those breathtaking views! Inside is a big double bed with a wrought-iron frame, bedside tables with lamps, a writing desk and chair, and clothes and other item storage. The décor is simple; carpets and patterned cushions add a few dashes of colour. At the rear of the tent, the en suite facilities consist of flush toilet, washstand with basin and mirror, and step-in bucket shower with wooden deck floor. We really appreciate the accomodation; it feels really real!

The mess tent of Lamai has amazing views of the river and surrounding scene. Separated by a bar, it comprises a dining and a lounge space. Along with a vibrant rug, animal prints on the walls, and a range of books for visitors to peruse, the lounge features some extremely cosy velvety seats and sofas around a chunky wooden coffee table. Everyone eats together at a big oval table in the dining area surrounded by directors’ chairs. Just outside the tent, further seating is arranged; the fire pit is positioned a short distance away. Here is the ideal location for sharing your safari tales and sinking a sundowner!

Sometimes Alex Walker hosts great meals in the modest mess tent in the house. A 24-hour generator supplies electricity; there is no Wi-Fi here or a mobile phone coverage. Most importantly is just being in nature!

Activities at Serian’s Serengeti Mobile Lamai:

Activities from Serian’s Serengeti Mobile Lamai seek to show you the finest of the local fauna on a really amazing scale:

Expertly guided game drives: Every group of visitors to Serian properties has exclusive use of a safari vehicle plus spotter — the same team of two is with you during your stay ensuring that you see the best of the Serengeti.
Wildlife spotting: Not only are the grasslands near the camp packed with herbivores, but also predators such cheetah and lion. Elephant are also in residence; it is not unusual to observe all five Big Five species in one day!
Great Wildebeest Migration: Unlike anything else in the world, the sight of the massive herds thrashing their way over the river is rather literally amazing. Often the scenes are really graphic as crocs lie in wait!
Walking safaris are also available from Lamai; this is a fantastic approach to see all the little details you would usually overlook on drives.
Fly camping is another great way to be especially adventurous! The Wogakuria Kopjes (rocky outcrops where leopard may be seen) and the Lamai Wedge (scenic wide plains abutting the Maasai Mara National Reserve) are two well worth seeing areas. Particularly if you intend to fit in some fly camping, we advise a minimum four night stay. Large and maybe deadly creatures do pass through an unfenced area in a wildlife zone. If you decide to stay here, please be careful when strolling around the camp and ask for a staff member to accompany you should you have any questions. Of course, any guest is escorted after nightfall.
